XXL.. The Introduction.
Since I’m required to keep a blog/journal recapping my daily experiences at my internship in order to receive my four credits from school, I decided to make it public. For starters, Im interning at XXL Magazine, located in NYC (Madison Square Park, 25th & Broadway.)
I’ve never known what or who I wanted to be when I grew up, I just always knew I wanted to be around Hip-Hop. Life changes and people do as well, and though I’m a well liked and popular individual, loneliness and I have gotten quite accustomed over the years. I never had a healthy relationship with my family, nor with God, quite frankly my only constants in life were basketball and hip-hop. Basketball was my first love, yet Hip-Hop was my best friend, my verbatim who always seemed to understand my emotions at the time. Whether it was composing or listening to Hip-Hop music, or being around people who shared the same love, Hip-Hop was my home.
Though this internship is unpaid, I was offered a once in a lifetime opportunity. While receiving a glimpse of “the real world”, also I was given a chance to network with writers and editors who would better not only my future, but myself as an individual. Personal development is something I wish my peers valued more. I promised to myself, that it would only be right to work hard and work my ass off. HONESTLY, I never really had to work that hard for anything in my life, I always found shortcuts and thought of schemes. This internship could serve as a wake up call for me..that If I wanna live a certain lifestyle as an adult.. the grind, the hustle, and the struggle starts now.
